Why the roaming microphone falls short
A microphone passed along the rows hears from whoever is closest and most confident. Everyone else keeps their question to themselves, and the chair has no way to know what the room actually wants to ask.
Plenty of people will not stand up in front of a full hall. A question typed on a phone is one they will actually ask.
When attendees can upvote, the chair can see which questions matter to many people, not only to the person asking.
An open microphone cannot be moderated. A queue can, so off-topic or unsuitable questions never reach the stage.
A question read out quickly is easy to miss. The same question on the screen behind the speaker is not.
For attendees

Type a question of up to 400 characters and post it. If the room is moderated, it waits for review before anyone else sees it.
Signed-in attendees can choose to post anonymously. Anyone not signed in posts anonymously by default.
Signed-in attendees tap to upvote a question, and tap again to take the vote back. One vote per person per question.
Questions and vote counts update as they happen, with pinned questions at the top and then the most voted.
Answered questions stay on the list with an Answered label, so nobody asks the same thing twice.
How a session's Q&A runs
Each Q&A is its own room, with its own questions, votes and settings. Set it up before the day, and hand the moderation to whoever is chairing.
Attach it to a session in the agenda, or keep it standalone for an "ask me anything". Choose when it opens: automatically for the session's times, when the moderator opens it, or all the time.
Each room has an attendee link, a moderator link and a Live screen link, each with a QR code you can enlarge and download. The moderator link needs no dashboard account.

Approve, pin, dismiss and mark answered. Spotlight a question and it fills the Live screen, with its vote count and the asker's name, or "Anonymous".

Yes. Signed-in attendees can choose to post anonymously, and anyone who is not signed in posts anonymously by default. Upvoting needs a sign-in, so each person gets one vote per question.

It is your choice for each room. With review turned on, new questions wait as pending until a moderator approves them. With it off, they appear to attendees straight away. Either way, nothing reaches the big screen unless the moderator spotlights it.
No. Send the moderator link or its QR code to the speaker or chair. It opens the moderator console for that one room only, with no dashboard account needed.
Yes. Between sessions, the moderator can clear the board in one step. The questions are archived rather than deleted, so they are kept for the record and can be restored. You can also create a separate room for each session.
You choose for each room. It can open and close automatically with the session's times, be opened and closed by the moderator, or stay open all the time. While it is closed, attendees see a short note, with the opening time when the room follows a session.
No. Live Q&A collects and manages audience questions for a session. NookPass does not stream video.
